Suzuki has introduced a new special edition of its flagship superbike in Italy, with the GSX-R1000R Stealth Edition bringing a darker appearance and a handful of additional components to the Japanese manufacturer’s performance model. Whether or not it makes it to New Zealand is yet to be known.
The new version draws inspiration from Suzuki’s Stealth Line outboard engine range, adopting an all-black finish with a combination of gloss and matte elements. According to Suzuki, the treatment gives the GSX-R1000R an “aggressive yet elegant look”. Beyond the new paint scheme, changes to the motorcycle are relatively limited. The main technical update is the addition of a titanium Akrapovič exhaust, while the rest of the upgrades focus largely on styling and equipment.
The Stealth Edition also comes with a rear seat cover, carbon-fibre winglets, a smoked windscreen and a limited-edition number decal positioned on the airbox cover. The model is currently exclusive to the Italian market.
The new edition also brings back memories of the GSX-R1000R Phantom, another special version that Suzuki revived in 2021. That model received a range of technical and cosmetic additions, including a Yoshimura exhaust, smoked double-bubble windscreen, single-seat cowl, tank pad, fuel-cap trim and track-focused brake and clutch lever guards.
The Phantom name itself dates back to the mid-2000s, when the first GSX-R1000 Phantom appeared on the now-iconic K6 generation. The 2021 version ultimately became the last Phantom edition before the GSX-R1000 disappeared from several markets due to increasingly strict European emissions regulations.
Suzuki eventually brought the GSX-R1000R back for 2026, with the updated Euro 5+ version announced towards the end of 2025. The new Stealth Edition now adds another special version to the superbike’s latest chapter, although for now it remains exclusive to Italy.
