2018 New Zealand Suzuki Gixxer Cup Champion Tom Newton is heading across the ditch to compete in the Australian Superbike Championship, supported by Team BSP Racing and Kawasaki BCperformance.

Tom will be riding a Kawasaki BCperformance prepared Kawasaki Ninja 400 in the Supersport 300 class, which has recently been reclassified as a ‘dual-class’ race, to allow the 400cc bike. Supplementary rules allow the 399cc Kawasaki to run in the Supersport 300 race class, with strict rules put in place to ensure fairness among competitors, including having a RPM limit programmed into the ECU prior to taking part in competition.

Tom is really looking forward to heading to Australia to compete in the Australian Superbike Championship. “Competing in the 300 class is going to be a new challenge for me but with Team BSP behind me I’m confident that we can put together a good package for the remainder of the 2019 season,” Tom said.

Kawasaki BCperformance Team Principal Kelvin Reilly said “We are looking forward to having Tom on a BCperformance prepared Kawasaki Ninja 400, it will be interesting to see how he goes and what he can achieve.”

Team BSP General Manager Robbert Adriaansen said moving talented and skilled riders into competitions around the APAC region is firmly his focus. “I’m very happy to see Tom taking on the remaining rounds of the Australian Superbike Championship. All of us at BSP are looking forward to seeing Tom perform in those rounds. I would especially like to thank Kelvin Reilly from BCperformance for making the bike available.”

The next round of the Australian Superbike Championship takes place at Morgan Park Raceway, in Queensland, from 5-7 July.
