Triumph Motorcycles have introduced the new hugely updated Scramblers – 1200cc parallel twin powered XC and XE versions. Tracing their roots back to the original Scrambler motorcycles of the 1950’s, the new bikes are packed with class-leading specs and state-of-the-art technology. The 1200 Scrambler XC is built with an all-road and off-road focus, while the higher specced 1200 Scrambler XE features more extreme off-road capabilities. Both bikes make 89 bhp (66.2 kW) peak power at 7400rpm and 110 Nm peak torque at 3950rpm, with rev limits set at 7500rpm.
Sharing a 21-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel across both models, as well as Öhlins fully adjustable twin rear shocks with piggyback reservoir units and Showa fully adjustable front forks; the XC and XE models are given stopping power via twin 320mm dual front discs with Brembo M50 monoblock calipers, and single 255mm rear discs with Brembo 2-piston floating calipers. Switchable ABS is fitted as standard, with the XE getting Optimised Cornering ABS. The XE also sits higher thanks to its longer suspension, including 50mm greater suspension travel.
The 1200 Scrambler XE is fitted with an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to control the Optimised Cornering ABS and Traction Control. Also exclusive to the XE are heated grips, adjustable folding foot controls, gold coloured forks, and hand guards with aluminium braces. Both bikes get switchable riding modes – ‘Road’, ‘Rain’, ‘Sport’, ‘Off-Road’, and ‘Rider-Configurable’ – with the XE getting ‘Off-Road Pro’ as an extra, which delivers the most off-road focused setup for advanced adventure riding and scrambling, automatically turning off ABS and traction control while using the ‘Off-Road’ throttle map.
Both bikes feature all-LED lighting, with Daytime Running Lights providing excellent visibility and a distinctive light profile. Second-generation full-colour TFT instruments are fitted to both models, designed with a stylish and informative layout, also allowing the rider to customise the start-up screen with their name. Both Scramblers also have LED backlit switches to enhance rider interaction and control by giving a soft glow in all lighting conditions. Keyless ignition systems are also standard on both models, along with electronic cruise control systems, accessible via the left switch block. USB charging is also available under the seats.
As a world first in motorcycling, Triumph has introduced an integrated GoPro control system, allowing camera operation from the TFT instruments, enabling intuitive video and photo operation via the switchgear. The TFT screen also features an integrated turn-by-turn navigation system powered by Google™ – their first motorcycle partnership – and is facilitated through an accessory fitted Bluetooth connectivity module, and a free downloadable iOS or Android phone app. Phone integration is also part of the Bluetooth connectivity module, allowing the rider to select music, control volume, and take calls via the TFT screen.
The 1200 Scrambler XC comes in a choice of two alternative premium twin-paint schemes – Jet black and Matt black, or Khaki green and Brooklands green. The 1200 Scrambler XE will also be available in two twin-paint schemes – Fusion white and Brooklands green, or Cobalt blue and Jet black. Both bikes will have access to a vast range of custom accessories, with over 80 individual parts allowing riders to create a very personalised bike.
