New Triumph Speed Twin 1200 Café Racer unveiled; limited to five units in NZ

  • Comes with special paint schemes and accessories
  • Limited to 800 units worldwide and 5 units for New Zealand
  • Priced at NZD 31,300 and available from March 2026

Triumph Motorcycles has revealed the Speed Twin 1200 Café Racer Edition, a limited-run model that draws directly on the look and riding stance of British café racers from the 1960s.

Production is limited to 800 units globally, with New Zealand receiving just five units. Each bike is supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity, reflecting its limited status within Triumph’s modern classic range.

The Café Racer Edition is based on the Speed Twin 1200 RS and adopts a more committed riding position through the use of low clip-on handlebars and a single-seat layout. A brown bullet-style seat with a removable cowl replaces the standard dual-seat arrangement, while pillion footpegs are removed as standard. For riders who want two-up capability, the footpegs are included with the bike and can be refitted.

Beyond the seating and ergonomics, several detail changes distinguish the Café Racer Edition from the standard RS. These include machined bar-end mirrors, ribbed clutch and alternator cover badges, black head bolt covers and sculpted knee pads. Pillion footpeg finishers are also fitted to maintain a clean appearance when the rear pegs are removed.

Visually, the bike is finished in a two-tone Competition Green and Aluminium Silver colour scheme. The fuel tank is primarily Aluminium Silver, with Competition Green panels separated by Empire Gold coachlining, which is also used for the “Café Racer Edition” graphic. The same two-tone treatment continues across the seat cowl and side panels, while the headlight bowl, fork protectors and side panels are finished in Competition Green. Brushed aluminium front and rear mudguards and Aluminium Silver wheels complete the exterior.

Underneath the styling changes, the mechanical specification matches that of the Speed Twin 1200 RS. Fully adjustable Marzocchi forks are fitted at the front, paired with Öhlins rear suspension. Braking is handled by twin Brembo Stylema calipers acting on 320mm front discs, and the bike rolls on Metzeler Racetec RR K3 tyres as standard.

Power comes from Triumph’s 1200cc high-compression Bonneville parallel-twin engine, which produces 105PS at 7,750rpm and 112Nm of torque. The engine features a 270-degree firing order and low-inertia crankshaft for a sharp throttle response and strong torque delivery throughout the rev range.

Electronic rider aids include Road, Rain and Sport riding modes, along with Optimised Cornering ABS and Traction Control. Triumph Shift Assist is also fitted, allowing clutchless upshifts and downshifts.

Instrumentation is housed within a traditional circular dial combining LCD and TFT displays. This setup supports turn-by-turn navigation and smartphone connectivity, while a USB-C charging socket is integrated into the layout.

The Speed Twin 1200 Café Racer Edition will be available to order from NZD $31,300, with the first bikes expected to arrive in dealerships from March 2026. Head to www.triumphmotorcycles.co.nz to secure yours.
