New CFMoto 550CL-C in the works?

  • Uses a 526cc parallel-twin engine
  • Continues with the familiar cruiser styling
  • Likely to be a 2027 model

CFMoto is preparing to expand its cruiser line-up with the upcoming CFMoto 550CL-C, a larger-capacity evolution of the recently introduced 450CL-C range. First revealed through Chinese type-approval documents, the 550CL-C builds on the foundation of the CFMoto 450CL-C but brings with it both increased performance and noticeable styling changes.

At its core is a new 526cc parallel-twin engine, derived from the 449cc unit used in the 450CL-C. The bore increases from 72mm to 74mm, while the stroke is believed to grow from 55.2mm to 61.2mm, indicating a new crankshaft and piston setup. The longer stroke suggests a stronger focus on low-end torque, which aligns with the bike’s cruiser positioning.

Performance figures listed in the approval documents show a peak output of 52bhp, up from 40bhp on the smaller 450CL-C. That’s a bigger jump than the capacity increase alone would suggest, pointing to a higher state of tune. Torque is expected to rise from the current 42Nm to somewhere around the 50Nm mark, while top speed is quoted at 165km/h, compared to 153km/h for the smaller model.

The bike shown is equipped with a conventional six-speed gearbox, although CFMoto already offers an automated manual transmission on the 450CL-C in China, meaning a similar option could be introduced for the 550CL-C as well. Chassis changes are relatively minor but notable. The 550CL-C adopts a longer aluminium swingarm in place of the steel unit on the 450, stretching the wheelbase from 1485mm to 1520mm. Weight increases from 181kg to 195kg, while overall length grows only slightly to 2212mm, thanks to a shorter rear section. Key components such as the wheels, tyres, and front forks are carried over.

Styling revisions are more extensive, with a redesigned headlight, updated fuel tank with knee pads, a new seat, and a shorter tail section. Elements like the front mudguard and circular TFT display remain from the outgoing model. With its appearance in type-approval filings, an official reveal is likely imminent, and the 550CL-C is expected to become a permanent addition to CFMoto’s global line-up in 2027.
