- February 10–14, 2027, confirmed for the five-day Burt Munro Challenge.
- Double celebration: 20 years of the Challenge and 100 years of the Southland Motorcycle Club.
- New BEARS Trophy Series will link the Teretonga Sprint Races with the Sound of Thunder, with combined points deciding the overall trophies.
The Burt Munro Challenge will return to Southland from February 10–14, 2027, with next year’s event marking two major milestones – 20 years of the Challenge and the centenary of the Southland Motorcycle Club.

One of the biggest dates on New Zealand’s motorcycling calendar is locked in for 2027, with five days of racing, riding and entertainment planned across Invercargill and the wider Southland region.
The Burt Munro Challenge has grown considerably since its beginnings and now attracts thousands of riders, racers and spectators from throughout New Zealand and overseas.

Five Days of Action
The 2027 programme will once again feature a mix of disciplines, with the Southland Honda Track Day, Star Insure NZ Hill Climb Champs, Indian Motorcycle Twilight Drag Racing, E Hayes & Sons Beach Racing, Super Seller Shelley Speedway and E Hayes & Sons Teretonga Sprint Races all confirmed.
There’s also something new for 2027, with the Teretonga Sprint Races incorporating the BEARS Trophy Series.
The series will link the Burt Munro Challenge with another well-known South Island motorcycle event, the Sound of Thunder. Riders will be able to compete at both meetings, with overall trophies decided from their combined points across the two events.

More Than Just Racing
Organisers are also expanding the off-track programme, with plans for a Show & Shine in Invercargill’s CBD along with a burnout competition.
Together with the traditional Burt Munro Rally, the additions should make the 20th anniversary event as much a motorcycle festival as a race meeting.
Burt Munro Challenge chairman Bill Moffatt says the combination of the Challenge’s 20th anniversary and 100 years of the Southland Motorcycle Club makes 2027 particularly significant.
“Reaching 20 years of the Burt Munro Challenge, alongside a century of the Southland Motorcycle Club, is something we’re incredibly proud of.”
Moffatt says organisers are planning special anniversary celebrations and additional activities alongside the established racing programme.
