News released from Munich late on Friday (NZ time) is that our fair land has been chosen for the 2020 edition of the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy – “a celebration of the spirit of the BMW GS motorcycle, bringing together those elements of leisure, adventure, and challenge that this bike engenders.” The New Zealand 2020 event is the seventh edition of the International GS Trophy, with previous editions having taken place in Central Asia (Mongolia) in 2018, South East Asia (Thailand) in 2016, North America (Canada) in 2014, South America (Chile) in 2012, South Africa (SA, Swaziland, and Mozambique) in 2010, and North America (Tunisia) in 2008.

The New Zealand edition of the bi-annual event with see 19 (possibly 20) teams competing from around the world in a series of challenges – not all being ridden. Competitors will be camping nightly together, fostering a sense of camaraderie. Equally the GS Trophy is a celebration of culture and nature, with the riders learning about and understanding the peoples and terrains of the regions they encounter.

New Zealand offers an amazing array of scenery, with variations in landscape from forests to deserts, mountains and wide open plains. Also rich in culture, the competitors are guaranteed to have an incredible experience!

We’ll be keeping our readers informed of more news as we get it from BMW Motorrad. Rest assured though, this is going to be a huge event for our little slice of paradise!
