Honda is looking to enter the e-MTB market for the first time, with the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer showcasing its new electric mountain bike prototype. The Honda e-MTB Prototype was presented at the Sea Otter Europe 2026 festival in Girona, Spain, marking the company’s move into a completely new sector.
Honda used the event to showcase the prototype alongside several other electric projects from its history and current development programme. Among them was the RN01 prototype downhill mountain bike, which dates back to the early 2000s.
The display also included the CR Proto electric motocross bike and the RTL Electric competition Trial bike, highlighting Honda’s broader interest in electric two-wheelers across different disciplines.
The e-MTB prototype represents Honda’s latest step into the bicycle market, although the company has not revealed further details about its specifications, production plans or potential availability.
It remains to be seen how Honda’s expansion into the e-MTB sector will develop, including whether the new electric mountain bike will eventually make its way to markets such as New Zealand.
