All new KTM 990 RC R unveiled

  • Gets MotoGP-inspired elements
  • Uses a 990cc LC8c parallel-twin engine
  • Could be launched globally next year

KTM showcased the 990 RC R, its comeback to the sports bike category, at the 2024 EICMA in Italy.

KTM 990 RC R

The motorcycle builds on the track-only 890 RC 8C and features several updates to make it a better package overall. The design of the 990 RC R is similar to that of its predecessor. However, it looks more like KTM’s MotoGP machine now. Winglets, sharp creases on the fairing and a stubby tail make up the motorcycle’s body. All of it makes the 990 RC R look aggressive. Even the upswept Akrapovic canister adds flair and purpose. That said, bits like the winglets, fenders and levers are all carbon-fibre.

Under the bodywork is a steel trellis frame with adjustable WP suspension forks and a monoshock. This houses a 990cc LC8c parallel-twin engine that is tuned to offer 128bhp and 103Nm. This motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox. The KTM 990 RC R rides on 17-inch alloys shod with Michelin Powercup tyres. Meanwhile, braking duties are handled by twin discs at the front with radially mounted Brembo calipers and a single disc at the rear.

Even in terms of features, the KTM 990 RC R is fitted to the brim. It comes with the brand’s touchscreen and 8-inch TFT display. While KTM hasn’t revealed much we can expect it to get the whole electronics suite from the 990 Duke R.

Now, the production of the 990 RC R will begin in 2025 and we can expect a global launch of the motorcycle next year too.
