The FIM World Supercross Championship will race in New Zealand for the first time this December, with Christchurch’s One New Zealand Stadium hosting the 2026 title-deciding finale featuring many of the world’s biggest supercross stars.
New Zealand will host the FIM World Supercross Championship for the first time later this year, with Christchurch’s One New Zealand Stadium confirmed as the venue for the championship-deciding final round on December 5.
The Christchurch event will conclude the 2026 championship after stops in Canada, England, Argentina, South Africa and Australia, with both the premier WSX and SX2 world titles potentially on the line when the gates drop in front of a Kiwi crowd.
World Supercross is the FIM’s international stadium racing championship, taking one of motorcycle sport’s most spectacular disciplines around the globe following the conclusion of the American AMA Supercross season. While supercross first rose to prominence in the United States during the 1970s, the World Supercross Championship was established in 2022 to bring elite stadium racing to new audiences around the world. Each event features qualifying, heat races and multiple finals on tight, technical circuits packed with jumps and rhythm sections.
The 2026 championship is the biggest yet, opening in Calgary, Canada on August 8 before heading to Birmingham, Buenos Aires, South Africa and Australia’s Gold Coast ahead of the season finale in Christchurch.
This year’s rider line-up includes three-time AMA Supercross Champion Cooper Webb, alongside established stars Joey Savatgy, Christian Craig and Justin Hill, while Australian rising talent Jake Cannon is also expected to attract strong Trans-Tasman support.
Venues Ōtautahi Chief Executive Caroline Harvie-Teare said securing the championship finale was another significant milestone for Christchurch’s new stadium.
“Welcoming the FIM World Supercross Championship to Christchurch is a major moment for the city and another wonderful milestone for One New Zealand Stadium.
“It will be a major operation as we transition the stadium from a Robbie Williams concert on November 28 into a dirt track ready for the World Supercross Championship. Our operations team are working closely with the stadium’s turf team to ensure both international events run smoothly without damaging the playing field underneath.”
“Staging the season finale here in December 2026 underlines One NZ Stadium and Christchurch’s place on the global stage as a world-class sport and entertainment venue, while giving fans the chance to see the world’s best riders compete for championship titles in an incredible atmosphere.”
Harvie-Teare said the event would also demonstrate the versatility of the new venue, which will undergo a remarkable transformation in the space of a week.

World Supercross Director of Racing Thomas Covington believes Christchurch is the ideal location to crown the 2026 champions.

The Christchurch event continues a huge year for supercross fans on both sides of the Tasman. Auckland’s North Harbour Stadium will host a round of the Boost Mobile AUSX Championship on October 31 before the world’s best head south little more than a month later for the World Supercross Championship finale.
