The upcoming Kawasaki Versys 900 has been spotted testing overseas, giving us an early look at the touring-focused adventure motorcycle. While the test bike remains heavily camouflaged, the spy images reveal several details about its engine, chassis and equipment.
The biggest clue comes from the powertrain. The Versys 900 appears to be powered by Kawasaki’s 948cc, liquid-cooled inline-four engine, which is already used in the Z900. In that application, the engine produces 123.6bhp and 98.6Nm. Its smooth delivery and strong performance should make it well suited to the Versys’ focus on long-distance road touring.

The spy images also reveal the motorcycle’s wheel and braking setup. The Versys 900 appears to use 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends, fitted with road-biased tyres. Up front, the motorcycle features twin brake discs, with the setup appearing similar to the arrangement used on the larger Versys 1100. It could potentially use 310mm dual discs at the front and a 260mm single disc at the rear, although Kawasaki has not confirmed the specifications.
Equipment could also represent a significant step forward over the existing Versys 1100. The current larger model uses a relatively simple semi-digital instrument console, while the Versys 900 could adopt the full-colour TFT display from the Z900.

The new motorcycle is also expected to receive a more comprehensive electronics package. Possible features include a quickshifter and traction control, while cruise control could be particularly useful given the Versys 900’s touring-oriented character. Judging by the latest spy images, development appears to be at an advanced stage and the motorcycle looks close to production. Kawasaki has not yet provided an official launch timeline, but the Versys 900 could make its debut by the end of 2026 or early 2027
