- AMX will open stores in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch before Christmas 2026
- The Australian giant operates more than 47 motorcycle accessory superstores across the Tasman
- Its arrival could significantly shake up NZ’s motorcycle accessories retail and distribution market
Australia’s biggest motorcycle accessories retailer is heading across the Tasman, with AMX confirming three New Zealand superstores will open before Christmas.

The New Zealand motorcycle accessories market is about to get a serious shake-up, with Australian retail giant AMX (All Motorcycle X-ccessories) confirming plans to open three stores here before the end of 2026.
The move follows the acquisition of established New Zealand motorcycle parts and accessories distributor Darbi Accessories and represents a significant expansion into the Kiwi market.
AMX is a major force across the Tasman, with 47-plus stores throughout Australia and a business model based around large-format motorcycle accessory stores carrying riding gear, helmets, parts, tyres and accessories across the road, adventure and off-road sectors.
Now Kiwi riders are about to get their first taste of the AMX formula.

Three NZ stores before Christmas
The first AMX New Zealand stores will be located in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, with all three scheduled to open before Christmas 2026. And judging by the way AMX has expanded in Australia, this could be the tip of the iceberg, with stores likely to be planned in other markets in NZ.
The company says the stores will operate seven days a week, supported by online sales, giving customers access to AMX’s extensive catalogue both in-store and online.
While AMX’s announcement focuses on what the expansion means for riders, its arrival could have much wider implications for New Zealand’s motorcycle retail and distribution industry.
The combination of AMX’s considerable buying power, large product range, established online operation and bricks-and-mortar superstore format makes it a very different proposition from most existing specialist motorcycle accessory retailers in New Zealand.
Its move into the country following the purchase of Darbi Accessories also gives the Australian company an established foothold in the local distribution industry.

A major Australian player
AMX began with a single Melbourne store and has since developed into Australia’s largest specialist motorcycle accessories retailer, with stores throughout the country.
The business is part of GPC Asia Pacific, the automotive aftermarket giant whose operations also include Repco, NAPA and McLeod Accessories. That gives AMX access to considerable purchasing, logistics and distribution resources on both sides of the Tasman.
AMX carries products covering road, dirt and adventure riding, including many of the major international motorcycle clothing, helmet, parts and accessory brands.
Head of Marketing & Merchandise Rob Farrimond says the company is looking forward to becoming part of the New Zealand motorcycle scene.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing AMX to New Zealand. Kiwi riders have a real passion for getting out on their motorcycles and exploring the outdoors, and that is something we genuinely share,” said Farrimond.
“Our team members are bike people too – they understand the gear and the lifestyle. Whether customers visit us in-store, give us a call or order online, they can expect to speak with people who are just as passionate about motorcycles as they are.”
Farrimond says AMX also intends to become involved with local clubs and riding communities as it establishes itself in New Zealand.

What will AMX mean for NZ riders?
For riders, the immediate attraction is likely to be greater choice and potentially more aggressive pricing.
AMX’s Australian operation is built around high-volume retailing, a huge range and competitive pricing, and bringing that model to New Zealand could put considerable pressure on established motorcycle accessory retailers.
It could also change the distribution landscape.
With Darbi Accessories already supplying a range of established brands into New Zealand and AMX now preparing its own retail network, the company will potentially have a presence at multiple levels of the local motorcycle accessories business.
Exactly which brands will be stocked in the New Zealand AMX stores, along with store locations and opening dates, have yet to be announced.
But with three large stores planned for New Zealand’s three biggest motorcycle markets before Christmas, AMX clearly isn’t dipping a toe into the Kiwi market.
It’s coming in with both boots.
