Triumph celebrates first perfect MX2 weekend as Farres closes on championship lead

  • Triumph has achieved its first-ever perfect MX2 Grand Prix weekend, with Guillem Farres taking pole position, both race wins and the overall victory in Portugal.
  • Farres closed the championship gap to just 32 points, collecting the maximum 60 points as the 2026 MX2 title fight heads into its second half.
  • The TF 250-X continues to impress, with Triumph now boasting three overall Grand Prix victories, nine moto wins and 12 podium finishes in just its third season of MX2 competition.

Triumph Factory Racing has reached another significant milestone in its young off-road programme after Guillem Farres delivered the team’s first-ever perfect MX2 Grand Prix weekend at Agueda, Portugal.

The Spanish rider dominated round 10 of the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship, claiming pole position in qualifying before backing it up with victory in both motos to secure the maximum 60 championship points aboard the Triumph TF 250-X.

The flawless 1-1-1 performance marks the first time Triumph has achieved a perfect Grand Prix weekend since entering world motocross competition just three years ago, underlining the remarkable speed of the British manufacturer’s development programme.

Farres was in commanding form throughout the Portuguese weekend. After narrowly missing the holeshot in the opening race, he quickly took control before steadily pulling away from the field to secure his sixth moto victory of the season.

He was even more convincing in race two, grabbing the holeshot before stretching his advantage to more than 10 seconds over championship leader Sacha Coenen at the chequered flag.

The result gives Farres his second overall Grand Prix victory of 2026 and reduces the gap to Coenen to just 32 points with nine rounds still remaining in the championship.

“It’s an amazing feeling to come away with a perfect 1-1-1 score,” said Farres.

“I got two good starts on Sunday, which made a big difference, and from there I was able to control both races. The bike was working really well and I felt comfortable all weekend.”

Triumph’s rapid rise

The result is another landmark in Triumph’s remarkably quick rise through world motocross.

After announcing its return to off-road racing in 2021, the manufacturer made its MX2 World Championship debut in 2024 with the all-new TF 250-X. Mikkel Haarup immediately delivered a podium at Triumph’s first-ever Grand Prix appearance, while the team has continued to build momentum through 2025 and now into 2026.

This season has been the team’s strongest yet.

Farres and teammate Camden McLellan have combined for three overall Grand Prix victories, nine individual moto wins and 12 podium finishes, including a historic one-two finish earlier in the year in France.

A Triumph rider has now stood on the podium at all but one Grand Prix this season, highlighting just how quickly the TF 250-X has become one of the benchmark bikes in the MX2 class.

McLellan keeps scoring

While Farres stole the headlines, teammate Camden McLellan continued his consistent championship campaign.

The South African finished fourth and fifth in the two motos to place sixth overall for the weekend and remains fourth in the championship standings.

Triumph Factory Racing Team Manager Vincent Bereni praised both riders but admitted Farres’ performance was something special.

“Guillem was very strong again. After winning the qualifying race, he backed that up with a perfect 1-1 result on Sunday, which was outstanding and another historic moment for Triumph and the team,” he said.

Championship fight heats up

With just over half the season completed, the title battle remains wide open.

Farres’ perfect weekend has significantly reduced Coenen’s championship advantage and gives Triumph genuine hopes of securing its first MX2 World Championship in only its third season of competition.

The series now heads to Johannesburg, South Africa, for the next round, where Farres will look to continue his momentum and further close the gap at the top of the standings.
