New KTM 990RC R spied; unveil likely at 2024 EICMA

  • Production-spec KTM 990RC R spotted
  • To use 947cc from 990 Duke
  • Could be showcased at 2024 EICMA in Italy

We already know that KTM will offer two versions of the motorcycle- standard and Track. It is also known that the 990RC R will be powered by the LC8 twin from the current 990 Duke. This version churns out 126.2bhp and 103Nm on the naked and could be tweaked to offer more horses on the supersport version. The 990RC R will also share the steel frame from the Duke and have similar mounting points and structure, although a few revisons for a more aggressive steering response is expected.

As for the rider triangle, it appears to be slightly upright on the KTM 990RC R. While the Track version could come with changes, the road version seems to have a more relaxed riding position with decent leg room and clip-ons that are easy to reach.  The spy images also confirm that the 990RC R will come with WP Apex forks of the manually adjustable variety and a wide colour TFT display layout different from the 990 Duke.

Design isn’t far off from what we see on the RC8C but we do see the inclusion of the indicators on the fairing rather than on the mirrors. It gets a single LED projector lamp at the centre. Other than the winglets, the 990RC R also features a scoop in front of the rear wheel that would provide additional stability. Other than that, the new KTM 990RC R will come with Brembo braking equipment and master cylinder.

The spy image suggests that the motorcycle is close to production and is expected to make an appearance at the 2024 EICMA in Italy with the standard model making it way to global markets soon after. The Track version, on the other hand, is expected to be globally launched in the second quarter of 2025.
