Our friends from NZ Blokes have recently been on a journey restoring a 1995 Yamaha XJR1200 into the rather cool ‘Red Rocket’ with help from Hungry Wolf Motorcycles. And now they’re planning to give it away!
NZ Blokes is the brainchild of Nic Scott and, as part of the Empire Media Group, is a Kiwi social media channel that covers everything from cars to tech, music to bikes and everything and anything in between.

We caught up with Nic and the team at last year’s NZ Motorcycle Show where they were launching the Wind Therapy initiative, with Nic’s own mental health struggles empowering him to come up with a plan to raise much needed funds and awareness of Te Kiwi Māia Charitable Trust, while also putting a spotlight on mental health issues in New Zealand.
Te Kiwi Māia Charitable Trust provides rehabilitation, recovery and respite to first responders who have physical or psychological injuries from their time caring for Kiwis.

Nic’s idea behind Wind Therapy is to encourage Kiwis to experience the world of motorcycling and to celebrate the positive impact it can have on you mental health aside from the actual joy of riding – from the community you’ll be a part of, to the tinkering with your machine and working with your hands, to making lifelong friends with the shared joy of being a motorcycle enthusiast.
“Wind Therapy is about giving hope to those who were once in a similar headspace to me, when I found mental health support through my riding community,” explains Nic. “We are in the midst of a pandemic of mental health in our Kiwi men, there is still a stigma around talking about our feelings and what we need to face the day. With so many of us struggling there is not enough being done, which is where all of us came together to send a clear message. It’s okay to not be okay, talk to your friends.”

“Riding is about fixing up your bike when it breaks down and your bike fixing you when you are down. Making modifications to make it how you want YOUR bike. We just want to showcase that with some inspiration from the very talented Kelvin from Hungry Wolf Motorcycle to show just what can be done in a shed with the right attitude and some support from friends.”

About Hungry Wolf Motorcycles
Hungry Wolf Motorcycles was born in 2022 when Kelvin stumbled upon a GSX1200 that was labelled “most likely stolen.” Initially intended as a quick flip, this project transformed into a year-long labour of love. Every detail was meticulously crafted, and the dedication paid off when my work was proudly showcased at the NZ Motorcycle Show.
My mission is simple yet profound: I aspire to be the first person that comes to mind for anyone dreaming of a custom bike. I believe that every motorcycle tells a story, and I’m passionate about bringing each unique vision to life.
