Vespa unveils 946 Horse limited-edition scooter

  • Made to celebrate the Year of the Horse
  • Only 1 unit available for New Zealand
  • Retains the 125cc engine as before

Vespa has unveiled its latest addition to the 946 range, introducing a limited-edition Horse model to mark the Lunar Calendar’s Year of the Horse. For New Zealand buyers, availability is extremely restricted, with just a single unit allocated to the market.

The new release follows last year’s 946 Snake edition, which celebrated the Year of the Snake. With the Lunar Calendar now moving on, Vespa has turned its attention to the Horse, the seventh sign of the Chinese Zodiac and the symbol that follows the Snake.

According to Vespa, the 946 Horse draws inspiration from the traits traditionally associated with the zodiac sign, including strength and energy, and applies them to a numbered, limited-production model intended for collectors. It becomes the fourth Vespa 946 variant linked to the Lunar Calendar, following earlier Bunny and Dragon editions.

Mechanically, the 946 Horse remains consistent with the broader 946 platform. It is powered by a 125cc single-cylinder engine and is equipped with dual-channel ABS. Suspension duties are handled by a rear unit offering five-position preload adjustment.

Alongside the scooter, Vespa has also introduced new lifestyle products under its In Sella range, which now forms the third series of the brand’s Al Vento apparel collection. The 2026 line adopts a navy blue theme and centres on knitwear, including sweaters, vests and cable-knit cardigans.

Rounding out the launch is a new helmet finished in the same glossy dark brown colour used on the 946 Horse, further tying the apparel and accessory range to the limited-edition scooter.
