Special-edition Indian Scout Bobber in the making?

  • News comes after homologation filings in Australia
  • Could use a 1250cc, V-Twin
  • Likely launch in the later half of 2026

Indian Motorcycle appears to be preparing a special-edition Scout Bobber to mark the brand’s 125th anniversary, with new regulatory documents pointing to a potential 2026 launch.

According to reports, Indian has filed homologation documents in Australia for its Scout range. Among the listings is a model named Scout Bobber 125th Anniversary, referenced internally under the code SBD77.

Indian’s five-character model codes are understood to denote the model line, body style, trim level, engine displacement and power output. Based on this structure, the SBD77 designation strongly suggests that the anniversary model will use the 1,250cc SpeedPlus V-twin found in the Indian 101 Scout. Further supporting this is the final “7” in the model code, which aligns with the engine tune used in the 101 Scout (SSE77). That version produces a claimed 111hp, rather than the 105hp output of the standard Scout Bobber (SBD76).

So far, Indian has officially revealed only one new model for 2026, the Sport Scout RT, making the appearance of additional filings unsurprising. Manufacturers often introduce multiple variants under the guise of “new” models, particularly when a major anniversary is involved.

What remains unclear is how visually or mechanically distinct the Scout Bobber 125th Anniversary will be. While the filings offer no clues on design changes, the use of the more performance-focused SpeedPlus engine opens the door to potential upgrades beyond power alone.

There is speculation that Indian could adopt mid-mounted foot controls, similar to aftermarket solutions previously offered by Roland Sands, or increase suspension travel to improve ride comfort and control. Given the engine choice, there is also hope that the anniversary model will move away from the Bobber’s extremely low rear suspension setup and forward-biased riding position.

The timing of this potential release also coincides with a period of transition for Indian Motorcycle. Polaris has agreed to sell the historic American brand to Carolwood LP, a private equity firm, with the handover expected to take place in the first quarter of this year. With that transition approaching, it would not be surprising to see the 125th Anniversary Scout Bobber, along with other new or revised models, unveiled shortly after the ownership change is finalised.
