It’s not often you see classic machines making passes up Meremere Drag Strip in the Waikato, but that’s exactly what was on offer at the inaugural Oil Burners Retro Ride Day on April 14th.
For just $20, owners of classic and retro styled machines had free reign of the drag strip to see what their bike’s were capable over the quarter mile, followed by a show n’ shine to show off their bikes to the public.
With BMW Motorrad New Zealand backing the event, owners of pre-1989 machines and all BMW’s were able to attend for free.
“A great day was had for the participants of the first Oil Burners Retro Ride Day, BMW Motorrad New Zealand’s general manager Nick Lewis commented.
“Participants got to try out their machines on the Meremere strip and one lucky rider got bike of the day and won the Oil Burners Arcade machine!”
The bike of the show was won by Warren and his immaculate 1968 R60/2.
