New Kawasaki KLE650: All details here!

Kawasaki has expanding its adventure line-up for 2027 with the new KLE650, powered by the company’s familiar 649cc parallel-twin engine. The new model will be offered in standard and SE versions, with the latter gaining additional equipment for touring and everyday convenience. Three further Edition packages will also be available, allowing buyers to tailor the bike towards different types of riding.

The launch follows a busy period for Kawasaki, which recently introduced the four-cylinder Versys 900 range, the KLE500 SE Smartride with its optional clutch-lever-free operation, and an updated Ninja 650 with revised forks and radial-mounted brakes.

Styling and features

Kawasaki KLE650

Although the KLE650 shares its styling cues with the smaller KLE500, including angular bodywork and a pair of frowning LED headlights reminiscent of the Z900 and new Versys 900, the larger model brings its own equipment package. The SE adds an up-and-down quickshifter, TFT display, tubeless tyres, USB-C charging socket, aluminium bash plate and taller front screen. Buyers will also be able to choose from three accessory-based editions: Top Case, Rally and Adventurer Tourer.

The standard model will be finished in Metallic Matte Graphensteel Gray, while the SE will be available in Pearl Storm Gray and Pearl Blizzard White. Both versions use a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear, with spoked rims reinforcing the bike’s adventure-focused design. However, rather than directly challenging more off-road-oriented machines such as the Yamaha Ténéré 700 and Aprilia Tuareg 660, the KLE650 appears better positioned as a rugged touring motorcycle. It could also compete with the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 750, which has recently been spotted testing.

Engine and Cycle Parts

Kawasaki KLE650

Power comes from Kawasaki’s existing 649cc parallel-twin, housed in a trellis frame. Unlike the 270-degree crankshaft configurations used by rivals such as the Yamaha and Aprilia, the Kawasaki employs a 180-degree crank, giving the engine a different character.

The engine has an 83 x 60mm bore and stroke, electronic throttle valves, and revised intake and exhaust systems. Kawasaki says these changes are intended to deliver strong low- and mid-range torque alongside what it describes as powerful high-rpm performance. The same engine platform already powers models including the Z650, Ninja 650, Vulcan S and Z650RS, and is known for its willingness to rev.

Official power and torque figures have yet to be confirmed, but output is expected to be around 67bhp and 63.7Nm, matching the latest Ninja 650. Traction control is included to help manage that performance, while cruise control should make longer journeys more comfortable.

Kawasaki KLE650

With its combination of familiar mechanicals, adventure styling and touring equipment, the KLE650 looks set to offer a more road-oriented alternative to Kawasaki’s smaller KLE500, with the SE and optional editions providing additional flexibility for riders planning longer trips.
