BMW Motorrad has expanded the R1300 family with the new R1300 RS and R1300 RT, adorning them with significant changes over the previous models in terms of a new engine, chassis and features.
Let’s start with the engine. The new bikes come with the 1300cc, boxer-twin that is also found on the recently launched R1300 R. This churns out 143bhp at 7750rpm- 9bhp more than before- and 149Nm at 6500rpm. Now the RS is the sportier version of the two, and in its standard variant comes with three modes- Rain, Road and Eco. The bike is also available with Riding Modes Pro as an option, with Dynamic and Dynamic Pro riding modes. Moreover, a performance variant offers sporty suspension, short levers, adjustable footrests, DTC-Shift, two additional sport screens, sport tyres and a sport seat.
That said, the chassis has been altered and now has a steel sheet metal main frame like the R version while the rear frame is made from die-cast aluminium. It rides on new 17-inch aluminium cast wheels that offer a 1.4kg weight reduction. Now the suspension is an upside-down telescopic fork at the front and BMW’s Evo Paralever at the rear. The bike features cornering ABS with the Riding Assistant with Active Cruise Control, Front Collision Warning, and Lane Change Warning
The BMW R1300 RT is the same as the RS in terms of engine, chassis and features- although with more touring abilities. It benefits from the Telelever Evo suspension on the R1300 GS. The RT also gets a 10.25-inch TFT screen with integrated map navigation and a revised Connectivity Hub feature.
Now, BMW is offering the R1300 RS in Racing Blue Metallic, Triple Black and Lightwhite as well as the 719 Cuyamaca variant in Brooklyn Grey Metallic. Meanwhile, the RT is offered in Alpine White 3, Blackstorm and Blue Ridge Mountain colour ways.
BMW is likely to launch the new R1300 RS and R1300 RT in New Zealand and Australia sometime in the next few months along with the R1300 R.
