New Bimota KB399 breaks cover; based on Kawasaki ZX-4RR

  • Uses the same engine as ZX-4RR
  • Comes fitted with top-spec components

Bimota has unveiled the new Bimota KB399, marking the second pure sportsbike to be launched under the brand’s ‘KB’ line. It follows the Bimota KB998, which was developed specifically for WorldSBK competition, where it effectively replaced the Kawasaki ZX-10RR while sharing its engine.

Whether the KB399 will make its way onto the world championship grid remains unclear, but what it does share with its larger sibling is its Kawasaki-derived foundation. The bike uses the same engine found in the Kawasaki ZX-4RR, producing a claimed 79bhp. This close relationship is made possible by Kawasaki’s 49 per cent stake in Bimota, acquired in 2019.

The similarities don’t stop at the engine, as the KB399 also shares its frame with the ZX-4RR, aside from Bimota’s distinctive red finish. However, the Italian firm has added its own touches, including subtle aerodynamic winglets mounted further back on the fairing compared to those seen on the KB998.

Cycle parts include a 41mm front fork and rear shock from Showa, along with a dedicated Akrapovic silencer. Braking is handled by Brembo Stylema callipers.

An Edizione Speciale version is also available, featuring billet aluminium levers and adjustable footpeg assemblies, a carbon-fibre fairing, and an upgraded Öhlins STX46 rear shock in place of the standard Showa unit. “Every Bimota is made with passion and this very exciting new Bimota expresses the very essence of our brand,” said Pierluigi Marconi, COO of Bimota.
