KTM 990 Duke updated for 2026; available in NZ from $22,599

  • Continues with 947cc, twin-cylinder engine
  • Now gets new colour schemes
  • Launched in international markets, including New Zealand

KTM has confirmed the 2026 990 Duke, introducing fresh visuals while retaining the same mechanical package as the current model. The motorcycle is now available in New Zealand for $22,599.

Now, the lack of mechanical changes suggests KTM believes the 990 Duke’s existing platform remains strong enough without an overhaul. The decision also comes at a time when the brand has been navigating financial challenges, making a visual refresh a more practical update for 2026.

The highlight is a new colour scheme that blends white, black and orange, drawing inspiration from KTM’s older racing and street liveries. While the bodywork itself is unchanged, the revised graphics give the bike a fresh presence in showrooms. The sharp panels, low-set headlamp and compact tail section remain familiar, reinforcing the Duke’s aggressive identity.

Powering the 990 Duke is the same 947cc, twin-cylinder engine, producing 122bhp and 103Nm of torque. Combined with its relatively low weight, the output promises strong performance both on the road and on track. The motor delivers a broad spread of torque, making overtakes effortless and highway acceleration quick and engaging, while its compact layout helps keep the bike slim and manageable.

The steel trellis frame is paired with WP Apex suspension at both ends. Designed to be light and stiff, the frame offers direct feedback and precise handling. The WP Apex units are expected to remain fully adjustable, allowing riders to fine-tune preload, compression and rebound to suit different riding conditions.

Although the hardware remains unchanged for 2026, the 990 Duke continues to offer a comprehensive electronics package, including multiple riding modes, traction control and corner-sensitive ABS, with wheelie and engine-brake management likely remaining part of the overall set-up.
