Kawasaki Z900RS gets striking new colour

Kawasaki has expanded the Japanese-market Z900RS range with a striking new paint option for the 2027 model year. Officially named Candy-Toned Greenish Blue, the new finish combines a deep metallic teal with subtle gold graphics, polished metal accents and blacked-out components, giving the retro roadster an even more distinctive appearance.

The new colour joins the 2027 Japanese line-up, with the standard Z900RS priced at ¥1,507,000 (approximately NZ$17,000). Sales in Japan are scheduled to begin on August 1, 2026. Kawasaki has yet to confirm whether the new paint scheme will be offered in other markets.

The latest colour further complements the Z900RS’s styling, which continues to pay homage to the iconic Kawasaki Z1. Design highlights include a round LED headlight, twin analogue-style instruments, sculpted fuel tank and ducktail tail section, all combining to recreate the look of the brand’s legendary 1970s superbike.

Beneath its retro styling, however, the Z900RS remains a thoroughly modern motorcycle. Power comes from a 948cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine producing 115hp and 98Nm of torque. The bike has a kerb weight of 216kg, giving it performance that comfortably matches its aggressive appearance.

Recent updates have also brought a host of modern electronics to the Z900RS. The bike now features Electronic Throttle Valves, cruise control, an up-and-down quickshifter, and an IMU-based electronics suite incorporating Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF). Kawasaki has also revised the engine to improve low- and mid-range throttle response while enhancing performance higher in the rev range.

Despite the addition of these rider aids, Kawasaki has preserved the Z900RS’s classic character by retaining its signature twin analogue-style gauges rather than replacing them with a large TFT display.

The combination of timeless styling, strong inline-four performance and modern technology has made the Z900RS one of the most popular retro motorcycles on the market, and the new Candy-Toned Greenish Blue finish adds another eye-catching option for riders seeking a classic look with thoroughly contemporary performance.
