Industry Shake-Up: Harley-Davidson Dealers Add New Brands in NZ

  • Two Harley-Davidson dealerships open doors to Triumph & BMW
  • Auckland Triumph brings the British brand back in style
  • Road & Sport Hamilton will soon be flying the BMW Motorrad flag

There’s been two big industry announcements this month with brands moving to new dealerships, both highlighting a new stance by Harley-Davidson in New Zealand.

It’s long been the case that New Zealand Harley-Davidson dealers were required to be a sole franchise, dedicating the entire store to the American giant. But with sales of the American cruiser brand being hit hard during the current financial crisis, there seems to have been a relaxation of the rules, with two iconic Harley-Davidson stores in the Upper North Island announcing this week that they are taking on a new franchise.

Triumph Now Available South of the Bridge

Auckland Harley-Davidson used to be multi-franchise when the company was called AMPS (Auckland Motorcycles & Powersports) based in a huge store on Khyber Pass Road. That changed when owner Ray Pratt retired the other brands, instead deciding to open a brand-new Harley-Davidson store in a stunning building located at 521 Mt Wellington Highway, literally a stone’s throw off the Southern Motorway.

And it’s that store that will soon see Triumph Motorcycles joining the large Harley-Davidson display, with the models from the British marque having a dedicated area covering nearly all of the models from modern classics like the Bonneville T120 and Speed Twin 1200, to high-performance models like the Street Triple 765 and Tiger 900. And there’s even going to be Triumph’s all-new dedicated range of competition ready TF off-road machines available, with Auckland Triumph committing to showcase the full spectrum of Triumph innovation and heritage.

“We’re excited to welcome back the Pratt family in this new era as Auckland Triumph to the Triumph Motorcycles New Zealand dealer network,” said Leigh Beckhaus, General Manager at Triumph Motorcycles NZ. “This new dealership represents a major step in strengthening our presence in the Auckland market giving riders south of the Harbour Bridge with direct access to everything Triumph — from the latest models to factory-trained technicians.”

Greg Pratt, Dealer Principal at Auckland Triumph, expressed his enthusiasm about rekindling the dealership’s relationship with the iconic British marque.

“Our connection with Triumph stretches back to the early 1970s,” he said. “So, when the opportunity arose to represent the brand once more, it was a natural fit. We’ve always aligned ourselves with brands we’re genuinely passionate about—and Triumph is undoubtedly one we’re proud to have back in our showroom.”

Located in the heart of Auckland at 521 Mt Wellington Highway, Auckland Triumph will also offer Triumph genuine parts and accessories, branded apparel, and authorised servicing, delivering the premium customer experience expected of the iconic British brand.

New Home For BMW In Hamilton

At the same time we were digesting the news of Auckland Triumph, another announcement hit the BRM desks, with Hamilton dealership Road and Sport announcing they were adding BMW to their current Harley-Davidson franchise from October 1, 2025.

“The opportunity to add BMW to our existing business was an offer we couldn’t miss”, said the Dealership founder, Barry Sproule. The BMW Motorrad brand carries outstanding longevity, and with its associated accessories and rider equipment products, offers an exceptional range and quality.

“BMW Motorrad has a large and dedicated customer-base across the world, and we are really looking forward to expanding our loyal customer, supporter, and friend groups as we support BMW Motorrad here in the Waikato”, Barry said.

Road and Sport Manager Hannah Manssen is keen to get into the work too. “We’re looking forward to meet, greet and ride with BMW riders… our parts, accessories and service teams are deep into BMW Factory training programs, and are excited and ready to make your riding experience better than ever”.

You’ll find Road and Sport at 381 Te Rapa Road, Hamilton.
