Honda announces 500 million-unit global production milestone

  • Has produced 500 million units globally
  • Was founded in 1948
  • To launch new models at 2025 EICMA

Honda continues to cement its legacy in the motorcycle world. Since assembling its very first motorcycle in 1949, just a year after its founding, the Japanese manufacturer has now surpassed an astonishing 500 million units produced globally.

What began with a single overseas production facility in Belgium in 1963 has grown into a global operation built on the principle of manufacturing where demand exists. This approach paid off handsomely: Honda crossed the 100 million mark in 1997, doubled that by 2008, and by 2019 had reached four times that number. Although the pandemic in 2020 temporarily slowed production, demand quickly rebounded, with Honda once again producing over 20 million motorcycles annually. It’s a remarkable feat for a company that started by building small scooters for a post-war Japan.

Today, Honda is looking beyond petrol engines. Declaring 2024 as the beginning of its global electric two-wheeler expansion, the company introduced the EV Fun and EV Urban at EICMA. That momentum carried into 2025 with the unveiling of a sporty electric concept likely based on the EV Fun. While its internal combustion offerings—from everyday commuters to performance-focused machines—remain key to the lineup, electrification is clearly front and center in Honda’s plans.

With manufacturing facilities in 23 countries and a network of over 30,000 dealers worldwide, Honda’s global footprint is immense. The brand is now steering toward a future focused on carbon neutrality and operational agility, as showcased by concepts like the V3R E-Compressor, revealed at EICMA last year.

Yet, amid all this evolution, Honda’s core philosophy remains unchanged: delivering the “joy and freedom of mobility.” And if its 75-year track record is any indication, the Big H is far from done—ready to power the journeys of millions more riders, regardless of what fuels their ride.

With that said, we can expect Honda to launch new models at the 2025 EICMA later this year.
