Ducati previews new DesertX for 2026

  • Powered by the new 890cc V2 engine
  • Lighter than before and with better off-road tech
  • Expected NZ and AUS launch by August 2026

Ducati has officially shared early details of its next-generation DesertX adventure bike, which will be powered by the firm’s new 890cc V2 engine with Intake Variable Timing (IVT), the same motor used in the upcoming 2026 Monster.

The reveal confirms what many expected after recent test mule sightings hinted that a redesigned DesertX was on the way. The new model is set to reach European dealerships in May 2026, before heading to North America in June, and then to Japan and Australia by August.

Powering the updated DesertX is the same 890cc twin-cylinder engine found in Ducati’s Multistrada V2 range. The motor delivers 110hp at 9,000rpm and 67.8lb-ft of torque at 7,000rpm, providing a blend of usable midrange and smooth highway performance. Despite the engine upgrade, Ducati says the new DesertX is lighter than the outgoing model, with a kerb weight of 206kg (without fuel).

The Italian manufacturer also notes that the bike’s off-road performance has been enhanced, thanks to a redesigned suspension setup with progressive rear linkage and improved damping. Ducati adds that while it’s more capable on rough trails, the 2026 DesertX is still perfectly suited to long road journeys.

Styling changes are expected too, though Ducati has yet to release images or specific details. The company promises a “completely new design” that stays true to the DesertX’s rugged roots while adopting sleeker, more modern proportions.

More details, including final specs, features, and pricing, will be revealed when Ducati gives the full global launch in February 2026.
