2027 Kawasaki Versys 900: What’s new?

Kawasaki has expanding its Versys range for 2027 with the new Versys 900, a road-focused adventure tourer powered by the 948cc inline-four engine from the Z900. Positioned between the Versys 650 and Versys 1100, the new model gets updates in almsot every category over the 650, let’s list them out for you.

Engine

Available in standard and SE trims, the Versys 900 is described by Kawasaki as the sportiest model in the family. Its liquid-cooled, Euro5+ compliant engine produces 120.3bhp at 9,500rpm and 97.4Nm of torque at 8,000rpm, providing the performance needed for longer journeys and riding with a passenger. Touring practicality is further supported by optional luggage, including a 47-litre top case and two 32-litre side panniers.

The engine sits within a new trellis frame featuring a long, fixed rear subframe. At the rear, the horizontally mounted monoshock is exposed on the right side, with a remote adjuster positioned near the pillion footpeg. The suspension layout appears similar to that of the Z900, as does the swingarm and short, single-exit exhaust. The Versys also shares the naked bike’s five-spoke 17-inch wheels, although these are fitted with Metzeler Roadtec 01 tyres for touring use.

Usability

Kawasaki has also paid attention to rider and passenger comfort. The pillion seat is clearly separated from the rider’s, with gently positioned footpegs and substantial grab handles. The rider gets wide handlebars, while the SE version adds chunky handguards for improved weather protection. Although the motorcycle’s overall weight has not yet been confirmed, the seat height is adjustable between 825mm and 845mm.

At the front, the Versys 900 features angular bodywork, twin LED headlights and a seven-position adjustable windscreen. The headlight design bears a resemblance to the Z900, while the fuel tank has been shaped to provide a secure knee grip and make it easier for riders to reach the ground.

Features

The cockpit features a five-inch full-colour TFT display with smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. Riders can choose between two display layouts: one designed for more spirited riding and another that gives navigation greater prominence when exploring unfamiliar roads.

However, the biggest technology addition is Bosch’s Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS), fitted as standard to both variants. Front and rear radar units enable adaptive cruise control, forward collision warnings and blind-spot detection. The rear brake light can also flash during hard acceleration to alert traffic behind the motorcycle.

While the Versys 900 is the first model in the family to receive radar technology, Kawasaki already offers similar hardware on the supercharged Ninja H2 SX SE. The new tourer joins a growing group of radar-equipped rivals, including the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+.

Beyond the radar systems, both versions receive lean-sensitive traction control, cornering ABS, multiple riding modes, LED lighting at both ends and a quickshifter as standard. This gives the Versys 900 a comprehensive electronics package without requiring buyers to pay extra for these features.

Both trims will be displayed at the Motorcycle Live show in the UK from November 21-29. The standard Versys 900 will be offered in Metallic Spark Black or Pearl Robotic White, while the SE will be available in Plasma Lime Green with Metallic Spark Black, or Firecracker Red with Metallic Carbon Gray.
