Indian Motorcycle to offer adjustable exhaust sounds!

Indian Motorcycle has expanded its partnership with Dutch exhaust specialist Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde, bringing the company’s electronically adjustable exhaust systems into official dealer networks across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. While the announcement does not include New Zealand for now, it highlights an interesting shift in how premium motorcycle brands are approaching aftermarket customisation.

For many owners of large-capacity V-twin motorcycles, the exhaust note is a major part of the riding experience. Traditionally, riders wanting a deeper or louder soundtrack have turned to aftermarket systems, often sacrificing factory integration, warranty support or regulatory compliance in the process. Indian Motorcycle’s latest agreement aims to bridge that gap by offering a factory-backed solution through its official dealer network.

The standout feature of the Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde systems is their electronically adjustable sound profile. Riders can switch between three different modes, Dr. Jekill, Dynamic and Mr. Hyde, allowing the motorcycle’s character to change depending on the riding environment. Whether cruising through urban areas, touring long distances or enjoying open roads, the system offers varying levels of exhaust presence while remaining compliant with road-use regulations.

Unlike many aftermarket exhausts that focus purely on increasing volume, these systems have been developed to meet European legal requirements and carry ECE, EG-BE and TÜV approvals. This makes them particularly appealing for riders who want a more engaging soundtrack without risking compliance issues or unwanted attention from authorities.

The agreement extends beyond simply supplying exhaust systems. Indian Motorcycle dealers across the covered regions will receive training, technical support and installation guidance to ensure the systems are properly integrated with each motorcycle. That dealer-backed approach transforms the exhaust from a traditional aftermarket accessory into something that feels much closer to an official factory option.

Compatibility is extensive, with support planned for Indian Motorcycle models produced from 2014 onwards as well as future products. The latest Scout, Chief and PowerPlus-powered bagger and touring models are all included in the programme, giving owners across multiple segments access to the technology.

From a business perspective, the move makes considerable sense. Premium cruiser and touring customers are among the highest spenders when it comes to accessories and personalisation. By bringing a popular aftermarket upgrade into its official ecosystem, Indian Motorcycle can offer customers greater convenience while strengthening dealer relationships and creating additional revenue opportunities.

Ultimately, this partnership reflects a broader trend within the premium motorcycle industry. Riders increasingly want factory-level quality and support while still retaining the ability to personalise their motorcycles. By bringing adjustable exhaust technology into its official dealer network, Indian Motorcycle is acknowledging that customisation is no longer an aftermarket activity alone, it is becoming an integral part of the ownership experience itself.
