BMW Motorrad unveils special F900R and F900XR but there’s a catch!

  • Exclusive to French market
  • Comes with cosmetic changes
  • No mechanical differences

BMW Motorrad has unveiled two special-edition versions of the BMW F900 R and BMW F900 XR, although both are reserved exclusively for the French market.

It’s not the first time BMW’s French arm has created a little envy. Last year, it introduced Dark Editions of the BMW F900 GS and BMW R1300 GS, also limited to France. For 2026, the focus shifts back to the F900 platform, this time drawing inspiration from the brand’s automotive M division.

The F900 R receives a new Frozen Grey paint finish, while the F900 XR stands out in Aurelius Green, a colour typically associated with the BMW M1000 XR. According to BMW Motorrad, Aurelius Green is “usually reserved only for the M1000 XR”, making its appearance on the F900 XR a notable talking point. Both colour schemes mirror shades commonly seen across the M performance car range, giving the middleweight bikes a more premium, performance-led visual identity.

The two models were on display at the Salon du 2 Roues in Lyon, running from 26 February to 1 March. Mechanically, nothing changes. Both bikes retain the 895cc parallel-twin engine producing 103bhp at 8,500 rpm, keeping performance consistent with the standard models.

The bikes are also offered with colour-matched accessories to complete the look. F900 R buyers can opt for a tinted windshield, along with a matching seat cover and engine cover in Frozen Grey. F900 XR customers can add a high-tinted windshield and an engine cover finished in Aurelius Green, reinforcing the special-edition identity without altering the core package.
