Travis Pastrana unleashes Gymkhana 2025: Aussie Shred, taking the series to Australia for the first time with the outrageous 670hp Subaru “Brataroo.” Packed with huge jumps, wild stunts, V8 battles, Aussie motorsport cameos and a heartfelt nod to Ken Block.
Yeah, it might feature a car, but Travis Pastrana first made his name as a pro motocross racer before turning to the freestyle stunts and tricks that saw him become a multi-time X-Games gold medallist and land the world’s first motorcycle double backflip — and then push the limits further (and more painfully) from there. The list of bones he’s broken is almost endless.
Now, Travis has released HOONIGAN Gymkhana 2025: Aussie Shred, picking up the mantle from his friend, the sorely missed Ken Block, who was a founder of DC Shoes and later created the Gymkhana series. Block combined his incredible driving skills with slick editing, onboard footage and wild locations to produce a whole new style of action filmmaking — one that quickly became a global cult.

Tragically, Ken passed away in a snowmobile accident in 2023, but his mate Travis has now returned with a new Gymkhana instalment. And while there is a motorcycle cameo and even a Mad Max Interceptor, the main action centres on Travis piloting a reimagined 1978 Subaru Brat — a fire-breathing creation packing a 670hp engine and active aero.
“The Brataroo is hands down the craziest Gymkhana car we’ve ever built,” said Pastrana. “Every part of this car was designed to take the abuse we threw at it while making this film. From hanging two tyres off a pier to flying 160 feet across a 10-storey canyon gap over a road train to skimming across a deep lake — and scaring myself every step of the way.”

Built by Subaru of America with technical partner Vermont SportsCar (VSC), the Brataroo is engineered to corner, slide and fly beyond anything seen in previous Gymkhana machines. The rallycross-derived monster runs a fire-spitting turbocharged 2.0-litre boxer producing 670hp and 680 lb-ft, screaming to over 9,500rpm with the most advanced active aerodynamics yet fitted to a Gymkhana car.
And as mentioned, the chaos takes place in Australia — a location the Hoonigan crew had long dreamed of filming in. With “hoon” being a ‘Downunder’ invention (they say Aussie, but we’ll happily share the honours), the team finally got their chance. The film sees Pastrana attack the iconic Mount Panorama Conrod Straight in the “Brataroo 9500 Turbo”,going head-to-head with Aussie V8s. And what then follows is one of the longest, wildest doughnuts you’ll ever see, stretched out along the Sydney waterfront.

“Australia had long been at the top of the list of potential Gymkhana film locations,” said 321 Action Director and Hoonigan Co-Founder Brian Scotto. “Ken Block and I attempted to shoot Gymkhana Nine there, but were met with a resounding no due to anti-hoon laws at the time. A decade later, when we approached the Australian government again, we were met with open arms. The unfinished business we had down under — and this being Pastrana’s last film in the series — made it incredibly special and pushed us to raise the bar both in the car and behind the camera.”
In true Gymkhana style, the film is packed with cameos from local motorsport legends: two-time Dakar champion Toby Price, Subaru WRC driver Chris “Atko” Atkinson, Nitro Circus BMX stars Ryan Williams, Jaie Toohey and Will Brown, plus a roster of V8 Supercars drivers who lined up for a rolling drag race with the Brataroo down Conrod Straight. You’ll also spot Moog and Marty from Mighty Car Mods, the last of the V8 Interceptors, and the Mad Hueys performing the noblest Aussie tradition — the shoey.
If you’re at work winding down for Christmas, take 11 minutes and watch the latest Hoonigan instalment. You won’t regret it.
