Vespa Reveals Special Officina 8 Edition

  • Available in limited numbers
  • Comes with special cosmetic upgrades and accessories
  • New Zealand launch around October 2025

Vespa has unveiled its latest limited-run tribute—the Officina 8 edition—a project that fuses post-war industrial spirit with cutting-edge aesthetics. This series celebrates not only Vespa’s history but the birthplace of its ingenuity: a small experimental workshop once known as Officina 8.

Available on both the Primavera and GTV models, this edition is more than just a retro paint scheme. It’s a full-blown tribute to the workshop culture that laid the groundwork for Vespa’s legacy. With matte Blu Officina 8 paint, brass detailing, and vintage-inspired design cues, these scooters are a rolling nod to Piaggio’s experimental roots.

Vespa Officina 8 Edition

The origins of Officina 8 date back to the late 1940s, in the aftermath of World War II. As Europe rebuilt itself, a tucked-away corner inside Piaggio’s Pontedera factory became the crucible for a radical concept in personal mobility. This was Officina 8, Piaggio’s innovation hub, where a cross-disciplinary team of engineers, metalworkers, and designers—many with experience in the aviation industry—came together to reimagine transportation.

It was here that the first Vespas were developed and tested. Landmark models like the 98 Corsa endurance racer and the formidable Sei Giorni off-roaders emerged from this creative enclave. The technicians who worked in Officina 8 wore blue coveralls and sported brass pins engraved with “Piaggio 8”—a mark of pride for their part in shaping scooter history.

Vespa Officina 8 Edition

In honour of this legacy, Vespa has styled the Officina 8 Primavera and GTV with intentional references to that pioneering era. The standout feature is the Blu Officina 8 paint, an industrial matte blue finish reminiscent of mid-20th-century machinery. Complementing the color are satin aluminium accents, brass trim elements, and retro-styled rims, creating a harmonious blend of raw mechanical flair and urban sophistication.

The GTV 310, with its iconic low-slung headlight and exposed handlebars, leans even further into heritage. A colour-matched front fairing enhances its race-inspired silhouette, while details like matte black bar-end mirrors, blackout treatments, and a modern recreation of the Piaggio 8 badge complete the look. Even the upholstered seats, riveted and stitched in contrast seams, pay homage to classic Italian craftsmanship.

While the styling is vintage, the tech is all 21st-century. The GTV remains a powerful commuter machine, capable of modern-day performance with a unique character. The Primavera, available in 50cc, 125cc, and 150cc versions, caters to urban riders who appreciate Vespa’s classic styling but demand contemporary usability.

Vespa Officina 8 Edition

To complement the bikes, Vespa is offering a full line of matching Officina 8 accessories. These include a top box painted to match the scooter’s bodywork, a dual-visored helmet in the same matte blue, and riding gloves with touchscreen-compatible fingertips. For those who want to take the look beyond the saddle, there’s a clothing range featuring a windbreaker jacket, hoodie, T-shirt, and even an Officina 8 keyring—all designed with an understated industrial theme.

What sets the Officina 8 edition apart is its authenticity. Rather than merely slapping on new decals or offering cosmetic upgrades, Vespa has created a package that channels the ethos of one of its most formative eras. Each scooter also includes a collector’s tin welcome kit, complete with a bespoke Owner’s Book filled with archive images and stories from the original Officina 8 staff.

In a market flooded with superficial “special editions,” Vespa Officina 8 stands as a genuine homage to the innovators, dreamers, and craftsmen who helped define two-wheeled transportation for generations.
