Royal Enfield has launched a special Classic 350 Gorkha Edition, paying tribute to the Gorkha Regiment of the Indian Army.
The new edition is distinguished primarily by its dedicated colour scheme and Gorkha-specific detailing on the fuel tank and side panels. Apart from these additions, the motorcycle retains the styling and equipment of the standard Classic 350.
Power continues to come from the familiar 349cc air/oil-cooled single-cylinder engine, which produces 20.2bhp at 6,100rpm and 27Nm at 4,000rpm. The engine is paired with a five-speed gearbox, while the suspension and braking hardware remain unchanged.
Braking is handled by a 300mm front disc with a twin-piston calliper, while the rear gets a 270mm disc with a single-piston calliper. Dual-channel ABS is also standard. Royal Enfield says the Gorkha Edition has been created to honour the legacy of the Gorkhas, with the motorcycle intended to represent the regiment’s steadfastness, integrity and endurance.
The Gorkha connection is particularly evident on the side panels, which feature crossed Khukri swords. The curved knife is closely associated with Gorkha soldiers and also represents their famous battle cry, ‘Aayo Gorkhali’, meaning ‘The Gorkhas are here’.
Given the motorcycle’s direct connection with the Indian Army and the Gorkha Regiment, the Classic 350 Gorkha Edition is unlikely to be introduced in the UK or other international markets. But would you like to see a special-edition Royal Enfield specifically for New Zealand?
