New KTM 990 SMT spotted testing

  • Spied in Europe

  • Global launch likely this year

KTM is gearing up to expand its big-bike lineup, with the upcoming 990 SMT spotted testing in Europe in near-production form, hinting that an official reveal could be close.

The latest test mule shows a semi-faired design with a centrally mounted projector LED headlamp, flanked by KTM’s signature LED DRLs. One of the most notable additions is a front-mounted radar unit, suggesting the inclusion of advanced rider aids like adaptive cruise control and collision warning, features increasingly making their way into the sport-touring segment.

The bike runs on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends with road-focused tyres, reinforcing its sporty touring intent. Braking appears to be handled by KTM’s in-house developed WP brake calipers, while suspension duties are taken care of by WP USD forks up front and a rear monoshock.

Power is expected to come from the 947cc LC8c parallel-twin engine, the same unit seen in the KTM 990 Duke. In this application, it’s likely to produce around 120bhp and 103Nm, with tuning aimed at balancing performance and long-distance usability.
