Leatt 5.5 ADV Rally Glove Review: Lightweight, Technical, Adventure-Ready

  • Ultra-thin NanoGrip palm delivers exceptional control feel in wet and dry conditions.
  • ReaFlex impact gel protects knuckles and wrist without adding bulk.
  • Lightweight, ventilated and designed specifically for off-road and ADV use.

Leatt’s move into the adventure market, from its beginnings as a motocross protection specialist, has seen it produce a range of technical products that not only work exceptionally well but also offer serious protection. We recently got hold of a set of Leatt 5.5 Adv Rally gloves and went straight to work testing them on the trails.

Technical Touches

With adventure riding, it’s seriously important to be able to feel your controls, with the finesse required from your throttle and clutch hands, the only way you’re going to be able to get a 200-kilo machine through tricky terrain without landing on your butt.

And the Leatt Adv gloves have been designed with dexterity in mind from the very beginning, with technical materials used throughout that not only make them super thin and lightweight but also protective.

The palm is made from NanoGrip material that is exceptionally thin yet super grippy, whether wet or dry, so you should never feel like your hands are slipping on the controls. The material also makes the gloves touchscreen compatible, so you don’t have to go through the annoying rigmarole of pulling your glove off to check the map on your phone or GPS, and there’s even a thumb screen wiper to help keep your visor clear.

Being from Leatt, they’ve taken protection seriously with a very clever ReaFlex impact gel in vulnerable areas like the knuckles and the wrist, which should help make any encounters with the bush a bit less painful. And, finally, a pre-curved fit makes them super comfortable to wear all day, while serious ventilation also helps keep your hands cool.

Now, one thing to appreciate is that these are designed more for off-road use than serious road riding, so they’re not going to offer masses of protection should you take a tumble on the tarseal. But for a day spent jumping from gravel to road to bush, these are now my go-to gloves for a day of adventure.

The fit is a little tight on the fingers, so bear that in mind if you’ve got chubby digits. And they come in sizes XS – 3XL.

VERDICT: 8/10 Exceptional fit and feel makes these all-day comfortable. A bit more palm protection for the road would make them perfect.
