Kawasaki updates hybrid motorcycle range

  • Comes with an EV-only mode
  • Specs and features get an update

Kawasaki has rolled out a software-focused update for its hybrid twins, the Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid and Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid, making them more usable in real-world riding without changing the hardware.

The biggest change is to the EV-only mode. Riders can now use electric power up to 60kmph, a significant jump from the earlier 25kmph limit. In practical terms, this makes the hybrid system far more relevant in city conditions, where traffic flow often exceeds 25kmph even during congestion.

Sport mode has also been improved. Previously, it required manual gear changes via paddle shifters, which added complexity in fast or stop-start scenarios. With the update, Sport mode now includes an automatic transmission function, allowing riders to focus more on riding rather than constantly managing shifts, whether in traffic or when pushing harder on twisty roads.

What’s notable here is Kawasaki’s approach. Instead of making mechanical changes, the brand has refined ECU management based on rider and media feedback. The result is a smarter, more adaptable riding experience, showing how software updates are becoming just as important as hardware in modern motorcycles.
