Britten Scale Model Kits Arrive After Years of Anticipation

  • Official Britten scale model kits arrive after years of development
  • Over 200 parts, 150 decals and multiple finish options per kit
  • Long-term production planned, with strong global demand already

New Zealand’s most revered motorcycle is being celebrated in extraordinary detail, with the Britten Motorcycle Company announcing the arrival of its long-awaited Britten scale model replica kits.

Revealed via the official Britten Motorcycle Company social channels, the release marks a major moment for collectors and enthusiasts who have been waiting years for an officially sanctioned replica of the legendary Kiwi-built machine. Interest has been immediate and global, but it’s in New Zealand that the news resonates most deeply, where the Britten name still carries near-mythical status.

The new kit is described as a very special item, featuring more than 200 individual parts, over 150 decals and a detailed 25-page instruction book. Builders can choose between two colour options and also have the option of replicating the original bike’s carbon-fibre finish on selected panels or painting them black.

Production is intentionally slow and meticulous due to the complexity involved. Rather than a limited-edition run, the Britten Company says the model is intended as a long-term production project, with each kit individually numbered.

The first production run consists of 60 kits, with the first 10 currently on hold (at the time of writing). Priority is being given to a waiting list of approximately 150 people, some of whom registered their interest several years ago. Those on the list will be contacted directly and offered a seven-day window to purchase before the opportunity passes to the next person.

A second run is expected in two to three months, and once all prior commitments are met, the kits will be made available through the Britten website store.

Despite the high level of detail and craftsmanship, Britten has worked to keep the price as accessible as possible. Although, with the kits priced at $795 NZD plus postage (with shipping costs still being finalised), we’re expecting that these will be almost as spectacular in detail as the real thing! International buyers should note that duties may apply depending on destination.

The kits are not yet listed online, as the first shipment has only just arrived. Interested buyers are encouraged to register their interest directly by emailing [email protected]. Completed build photos are expected to follow soon.

For Kiwi riders and fans worldwide, the release is more than just a model kit – it’s a celebration of one of motorcycling’s greatest engineering stories, now captured piece by painstaking piece.

You’ll need a steady hand…

As every Kiwi motorcyclist will probably know, the Britten V1000 is one of the most extraordinary motorcycles ever built. Designed and developed in Christchurch by the late John Britten and a small team of innovators in the early 1990s, the bike shocked the global racing world by defeating factory-backed teams using radical engineering solutions, extensive carbon fibre construction and ground-breaking aerodynamics.

Built largely by hand and far ahead of its time, the Britten became a symbol of Kiwi ingenuity, proving that a small group with vision and passion could challenge – and beat – the biggest names in world motorcycling.

So, if you would like your own little piece of history and enjoy spending time building models, we’re sure that this is one build that’s going to be positioned pride of place in the bike shed.
