BMW Motorrad recently launched the new R1300 RS and RT for global markets. The two new motorcycles are slated for launch in Australia and New Zealand soon, so let’s have a look at their images and details.

BMW Motorrad has officially introduced two new additions to the R1300 family – the R1300 RS and R1300 RT. Both bikes come with comprehensive updates in terms of engine, chassis design, features, and tech, making them more refined and capable than their predecessors. These updates follow the recent launch of the R1300 R and signal BMW’s intention to strengthen its touring and sport-touring range.

1300cc Boxer-Twin Engine with More Power

BMW R1300 RS and R1300 RT:

At the heart of both the RS and RT is BMW’s new 1300cc boxer-twin engine, already seen on the R1300 R. It now produces 143bhp at 7750rpm and 149Nm of torque at 6500rpm – that’s a bump of 9bhp over the previous generation. This new engine offers smoother power delivery, improved performance, and better efficiency, making it ideal for both spirited riding and long-distance touring.

Riding Modes and Sport Options on the RS

The R1300 RS is the sportier sibling and comes with three standard riding modes: Rain, Road, and Eco. For those wanting more, BMW offers a ‘Riding Modes Pro’ option that adds Dynamic and Dynamic Pro for a sharper throttle response and enhanced dynamics. There’s also a performance variant with features like sporty suspension, short levers, adjustable footrests, DTC-Shift, a sportier seat, sportier tyres, and two different screens aimed at more aggressive riding.

Revised Chassis and Lighter Wheels

BMW has redesigned the chassis for both bikes. They now use a steel sheet metal main frame, similar to the R1300 R, while the rear subframe is made from die-cast aluminum. The bikes also ride on new 17-inch aluminum cast wheels that shave off 1.4kg in weight, improving agility and handling. The combination offers better stiffness and weight distribution, contributing to enhanced ride quality.

Suspension and Safety Tech

The R1300 RS features an upside-down telescopic fork at the front and the proven Evo Paralever system at the rear. It also comes loaded with advanced rider aids including cornering ABS, Active Cruise Control, Front Collision Warning, and Lane Change Warning – part of BMW’s Riding Assistant suite. These features bring a new level of safety and rider confidence, especially on long trips or dynamic rides.

R1300 RT: The Touring Specialist

While the RT shares the same engine and chassis as the RS, it’s geared towards touring comfort. It gets BMW’s Telelever Evo suspension at the front, offering better stability and control on long journeys. The RT is also equipped with a large 10.25-inch TFT display that features integrated navigation and an updated Connectivity Hub for seamless smartphone pairing and route management – ideal for tech-savvy tourers.

Paint Options

The R1300 RS is available in three standard paint schemes – Racing Blue Metallic, Triple Black, and Lightwhite – along with a special 719 Cuyamaca edition in Brooklyn Grey Metallic. The R1300 RT, meanwhile, is offered in Alpine White 3, Blackstorm, and the striking Blue Ridge Mountain colour. These paint schemes give buyers a wide choice between sporty and elegant aesthetics.

Launch Plans for NZ and Australia

BMW Motorrad is expected to roll out the new R1300 RS and R1300 RT in New Zealand and Australia within the next few months. The launch will likely coincide with the arrival of the R1300 R as BMW aims to refresh its entire boxer range in these key markets. More details around pricing and availability should follow soon.
