Adventure Bags: Updated Luggage Options From Givi

  • New Givi Canyon panniers offer soft luggage strength, waterproofing, and adventure styling, all while looking cooler than ever.
  • Compatible with Monokey racks or choose a UniFit system for other racks, with sizes from 25L–35L
  • Addition of M.O.L.L.E Loop system allows for further attachments to the outside.
  • New Canyon Soft Luggage Saddle System will appeal to hardcore adventure riders.

A recent visit to Taranaki saw the BRM team call into Eurobike Wholesale, the NZ importers of many cool brands. And while we were there, we saw that Givi, the legendary luggage brand, has recently dropped something really cool.

When it comes to adventure riding, we prefer soft luggage. Why, you ask? Well, when the inevitable happens and we end up tipping over and falling off the bike, having a soft bag rather than a hard metal pannier means it’s much less likely to get damaged and also going to be a lot softer if it lands on a leg. Yep, I think we can all imagine the whole world of hurt you’re going to be in if one of those large aluminium panniers pins you to the floor.

Givi has had a range of soft, adventure-style panniers for many years, with the Canyon range being steadily developed over that period to get to the latest range, which pretty much covers all the bases you’re likely to require when it comes to soft luggage. And part of that development has seen the latest version of the Canyon range made almost as versatile as some hard luggage systems with its ability to lock on the bike and also offer various options for attaching other bags onto the panniers. Oh, and the new range also comes in a really cool new colourway, with the brown straps really solidifying the adventure vibes.

What Are The Standout Features Of The Givi Canyon Bags?

How Do They Fit?

Firstly, there are a couple of different options with the new Givi Canyon bags, depending on the amount of gear you want to carry and also the fitting system you require. If you’ve already got a Givi Monokey hard luggage system, the Canyon range can fit to your existing rack. And the cool bit is that the soft bags even feature the same Monokey locking system that will offer protection from someone simply unhooking your bags and running off with them. And with the Monokey system featuring one key (mono, get it…), it means you aren’t messing around trying to work out which key opens what. Okay, being soft luggage, there isn’t the same level of theft protection as you get with the solid aluminium panniers, but it at least makes it a little bit more difficult.

Suppose you don’t have the Monokey system, but your bike does have a luggage rack. In that case, Givi also has a solution for you, with the GRT709B panniers featuring their ‘Unifit’ fixing system, allowing them to be attached to GIVI’s PL and PL_CAM tubular side-case holders, as well as to most side frames on the market.

Sizes range from the GRT720B Canyon Monokey featuring 25 litres of room per side inside to cram your belongings, while the GRT725 Monokey Cam-Side gets 30 litres of space each side, and the GRT709B offers a massive 35 litres (70 total!).

Other Cool Bits

Okay, so we LOVE the new look, with the sand-coloured straps and details giving the Canyon panniers a style that will enhance the look of any adventure machine. Yet, the Canyon’s don’t only look good, with heaps of little touches that make them into a brilliant luggage system.

Tough

Made from a combination of abrasion-resistant Cordura, Hypalon and TPU fabrics, the Canyons are designed to handle the sort of abuse adventure riders dish out. And being soft, they aren’t going to get dented if you topple off your bike.

Waterproof & Secure

A high-frequency welded waterproof inner liner keeps your gear bone dry, while the roll-top closure adds extra peace of mind in wet conditions. The interior is also a light colour, making it easier to find that tool which always drops down the bottom of your pannier, and it’s also removable, so you can take your kit out without removing the pannier.

Secure

The removable front flap made from Hypalon protects the bag from impacts and includes a handy mesh pocket on the reverse side. With eight compression points, extra-lock fastening buckles and loops for padlocks, these bags are built to stay secure and stable no matter how rough the ride gets.

M.O.L.L.E Loops

Needing extra space, or maybe you want to attach something to the outside of the panniers that you need to get to easily? The new Canyons have a M.O.L.L.E. Loop system for attaching small additional items like a tool bag, so you don’t need to open the top and delve into your dirty undies to get it.

If you want to know more about the new range of Givi Canyon soft luggage, then head to your local Givi dealer or go HERE .

Price for the GRT709B 35-litre bags with the M.O.L.L.E system and UniFit system is $1,499 (pair), while the Monokey rack-compatible GRT720B 25-litre bags are $1,049 (pair). Finally, the Givi GRT725, suitable for Givi’s PL_Cam pannier racks, is $699 (each) for the 30-litre bag. It’s a little complicated, so it will pay to speak to your local Givi dealer and give them details of your bike and rack system, and they’ll be able to advise on which is the best solution for you.

Another Cool Product!

Soft Saddle System

While we were at Eurobike, we spied another cool product from Givi – their new Givi GRT721B Canyon Soft Luggage Saddle System. When you’re getting seriously dirty on an adventure bike, it’s best to travel light, with small bags sitting on the rear saddle attached to rear footpegs, giving space for tools and a few other bits and bobs. But they’re generally never that easy to get into.

The new GRT721B Canyon Soft Luggage Saddle System from Givi takes the concept of a saddle system and makes it more accessible, thanks to the base featuring a couple of inserts that you then slot dry bags into on either side of the bike. That means when you need access, you simply have to pull one of the dry bags out of the slots on the side of the base rather than taking the whole unit off. And for additional room, you can attach a bag to the middle of the system and simply un-click it when you need whatever is inside.

It’s a clever advancement of the standard saddle luggage system and is certainly more user-friendly and versatile. No racks, no fuss, just a solid, adaptable setup for whatever you want to carry. Made from high-strength materials, it’s built to handle rough tracks and wild weather. The set includes two 16-litre side bags and a 12-litre top bag, all fully waterproof with roll tops and welded seams. M.O.L.L.E. panels let you attach extras like tool rolls or the mini GRT730 bag, and reflective detailing improves visibility in low light.

At $999 for the complete system, it’s not only a seriously advanced and useful luggage system, but it’s also versatile so that it will transfer from one bike to another without fuss.

Check your local bike shop to see if they’ve got one or head to HERE for more info.
