Kawasaki unveils new KX327 and KX327X for 2027

  • Marks return to larger-capacity two-stroke MX segment
  • Powered by the same 327cc engine with feature differences

Kawasaki has announced two all-new off-road motorcycles for 2027, introducing the KX327 and KX327X and marking a significant return to the larger-capacity two-stroke segment. Both machines are powered by a newly developed 327cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected two-stroke engine, making them Kawasaki’s first all-new two-stroke motorcycles above 250cc in more than two decades.

The new engine has been designed to retain the sharp throttle response and lively character that have long made two-strokes popular among off-road riders, while benefiting from modern fuel-injection technology. Kawasaki says the system delivers more precise fuelling across a wider range of temperatures and altitudes, helping maintain consistent performance in varying riding conditions.

Kawasaki KX327

Built around an aluminium perimeter frame derived from the KX450F motocross platform, both motorcycles are claimed to weigh just 106kg. The lightweight chassis is paired with the new powerplant to provide a competitive package aimed at riders seeking strong performance and agility both on the track and on the trail.

Although the KX327 and KX327X share the same engine and chassis architecture, they have been developed for different purposes. The KX327 is focused on motocross use and features a close-ratio five-speed gearbox along with a 19-inch rear wheel, giving it the specification expected of a dedicated MX machine.

The KX327X, meanwhile, has been tailored for cross-country competition and trail riding. It receives a wide-ratio six-speed transmission, an 18-inch rear wheel and a larger 8.3-litre fuel tank to improve versatility and range. Kawasaki has also equipped the X variant with handguards, a bash plate, a rear disc guard and a side stand, further reinforcing its off-road credentials.

Suspension duties on both models are handled by a KYB 48mm upside-down front fork and Kawasaki’s Uni-Trak rear monoshock system. Braking performance comes from Nissin callipers working with 270mm front and 240mm rear petal discs. Both motorcycles also feature an electric starter and two selectable engine power modes, blending traditional two-stroke performance with modern convenience.

The introduction of the KX327 and KX327X represents one of Kawasaki’s most significant off-road developments in recent years. With manufacturers increasingly focusing on four-stroke platforms, the arrival of an all-new fuel-injected 327cc two-stroke signals that demand for lightweight, high-performance two-stroke motorcycles remains strong.
