If you’ve struggled to find travel insurance that covers riding motorcycles over 250cc on overseas trips, AA Travel Insurance has introduced new, customisable cover options for motorcyclists riding bikes of all engine sizes.
Whether it’s cruising iconic highways, tackling an alpine pass, or taking a short ride while travelling for business or leisure, Kiwi riders can now explore the world with confidence on the engine they love.
Launched in December, AA’s new Travel Insurance — offered in partnership with Cover-More Travel Insurance — is designed to take the hassle out of travel planning, allowing riders to focus on making memories and discovering epic routes.
Under the International Comprehensive Cover option, motorcyclists can choose between two levels of protection:
- Motorcycle/Moped Riding for engine capacities under 250cc
- Motorcycle/Moped Riding Plus, offering unlimited engine capacity for an additional premium

As with all insurance policies, conditions apply. For Motorcycle/Moped Riding Plus, these include the motorcycle or moped being hired, holding a New Zealand motorcycle licence for the past five years, and being the registered owner of a motorcycle in New Zealand with an engine capacity equal to or greater than the one being hired overseas. Travellers can further customise their cover with additional options including cruises, snow sports and adventure activities. AA Travel Insurance customers also benefit from locally based customer support teams, a new online quote-and-pay platform, and a ‘follow-the-sun’ emergency assistance service — ensuring help is available wherever they are in the world.
