Next-gen Ducati DesertX spotted on test!

  • To get a new 890cc V2
  • Changes to design and styling
  • Likely to be unveil by next month

Ducati is gearing up to introduce the next-generation version of its off-road-focused adventure bike, the DesertX, which was recently spotted testing in Europe. The prototype hints at several changes, the most notable being the adoption of the brand’s new 890cc V2 engine.

Spy shots confirm that the upcoming DesertX will swap its existing 937cc Testastretta engine for Ducati’s lighter V2 motor, already seen in the Multistrada V2. This upgrade is expected to yield significant weight savings, with reports suggesting a reduction of around 18kg compared to the current model’s 223kg kerb weight. Complementing the new engine is an updated chassis, which should further enhance agility and handling.

Although the test bike was heavily camouflaged, its overall stance remains true to the current DesertX, especially with the familiar twin-pod round headlamp up front. However, Ducati appears to have refined the tail section, making it more compact, and revised the swingarm design, likely to improve off-road performance and weight distribution.

While Ducati hasn’t revealed output figures yet, the outgoing model’s Testastretta engine produces 108.6bhp and 92Nm, and it’s likely the new unit will offer similar, if not slightly improved, performance, paired with smoother power delivery.

The next-generation DesertX is expected to make its global debut at the 2025 EICMA show in early November, with a global launch anticipated in the first half of 2026.
