New Yamaha R9 launched in New Zealand!

  • Yamaha R9 debuts at Burt Munro Challenge
  • Only 2 bikes are available as of now
  • Uses an 890cc inline-three cylinder engine

The Yamaha R9 is powered by the 890cc, inline-three cylinder engine that does duty in the XSR900 GP and MT-09. However, it gets a change in chassis with the lightest-ever Deltabox, gravity-cast aluminum frame. True to all faired bikes, the engine is surrounded by panels while the entire design is similar to that of its bigger sibling- the YZF-R1. It gets aggressive lines all through and comes with integrated winglets that add downforce while making the R9 look appealing.

Equipped with fully adjustable KYB forks up front and a monoshock at the rear, it sits on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped with Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22F rubber. Braking is handled by 320mm discs and Brembo Stylema calipers for the front and a 220mm disc at the rear. That said, Yamaha has also equipped the R9 with electronics like an IMU-based traction control system, ride modes, wheelie control and cornering ABS as well as a colour TFT screen with Bluetooth connectivity.
