First held last year – as a re-introduction of motorcycle endurance racing to New Zealand,  the Motul 6 Hour endurance race returns this Sunday at Hampton Downs, on the 2.7Km National Circuit.

The inaugural event attracted a diverse range of riders and machines.
Running in teams of three riders and motorcycles – in what is, in effect, a relay race – each rider is required to complete a specified amount of track time within the 6 Hour duration.

Winners in 2015 were the experienced trio of Connor London, Daniel Mettam and Toby Summers.
Covering 298 Laps (804 Km) in the 6 Hours, they finished two laps ahead of the Rees Family – Tony, Damon and Mitch.

Team Rees DNA are back in 2016, but the competition is as strong as ever.
Toby Summers teams up in “Barnes-Jenkins Racing” with Aaron Hassan and Scott Moir, but watch also for “Team RCM” where Ray Clee, Nathanael Diprose and Daniel Mettam combine in another powerhouse trio.

There are plenty of other contenders as well, in an entry as diverse and interesting as 2015 – including those who bring a sense of humour to the occasion.
Team 15 is “2 John’s Don’t Make A Mike” – comprising John Elmes, Mike Sorensen, and John Sofo, I’m looking forward to seeing how they go …..

There is a brief Qualifying session from 9:00am – in which every team rider must qualify, and then the Motul 6 Hour will begin at 10:00am.
Spectators are $15 – with those under 12 free.
